This is Tamar writing.
I wanted to update you all that I'm feeling fine now, all that has yet to heal are my bones and my ringing ear. God has been good to us. The country is beautiful, the people here are extremely hospitable, and we're having a fantastic time.
Thanks to all of you for your prayers, phone calls and letters. It has made a huge difference to us especially right after the attack, we felt like we were surrounded by family and friends.
About the picture albums, we've received comments about the number of plant pictures. It's Piers' camera so he carries it and does most of the picture taking. I'll try harder to get my hands on it and take more people pictures while we're here.
A couple weeks ago, we went on a plant hunting trip with people from Kirstenbosch, where Piers is volunteering. We had a dog with us. Pet of the driver. When we went camping the first night, where dogs weren't allowed (we snuck him in), the dog was well behaved, but the next morning he got into a killing frenzy and started chasing all the poultry around. The peacocks and smaller birds were fast enough to get away, but the poor flightless chickens... terrible. One didn't make it, another was seriously wounded. It was quite the morning as the driver prepared to confess to the owners. It worked out in the end though. They didn't care too much and the driver, who is also a famous horticulturalist was asked to return with his whole family for a free stay in return for naming un-named plants in the area! Isn't that something? He's a real romantic too. He named a flower he really liked after his wife. Awww....
Piers and the boys went hiking later that day. In the evening the weather turned bad and they had to sleep in the rain (no tent). They hiked out all wet, tired and scraped up (lots of spiky plants in the area). We spoiled ourselves the next night at a natural spa (like Hamat Gader but more basic) with a BBQ (Braai) and tents.
