It’s been a while since we last wrote. Here’s a short list of what we haven’t reported on: walking with cramp-ons on snowy glaciers; hot springs; more hiking – this time on the Abel Tasman track and around Mt. Cook; good food and a good time Friday dinner at Beit Chabad; sad farewell to Yael Rakover, our NZ traveling buddy; Tongariro Crossing track (our last hike in NZ – stunning!), rolling downhill in a ZORB (see pictures); a chauffeured tour around Auckland care of Annette Short, Piers’ cousin.
So we’ve finally made it to the States. We’re in San Fransisco now visiting our friend Jeanette from South Africa. She was a volunteer with Piers at Kirstenbosch and now she’s showing us around all her favorite gardens in the area. I thought all we’d see here would be shops and malls and Americans in white shorts and keds, but it turns out there’s a lot of nature around here, people don’t really wear keds anymore and winter is too cold for shorts. On our way here from LA we drove through Giant Sequoia National Park. We think we saw two giants but aren’t very sure. In LA, Yony Buth quickly adjusted our stomachs to local cuisine by feeding us burritos, donuts and meat. We didn’t get to go to the Oscars but we did give ourselves a little tour around LA on foot, from Hollywood to downtown via Bel Air, rapping the whole way. We got to see the Carlson clan in Bakersfield. You’ll all be excited to know that Claudia had an adorable baby girl named Dania!
We bought a car the other day, a ’90 Honda Civic, which we hope will get us all the way to New York. Please pray for it, it wobbles (it’s safe, mom, we got it checked.) We’re heading north from here to OR, WA, BC, then east to AB, then south to CO where my aunt and uncle live. After that we’re not too sure. Piers needs to get a green card to be able to work here. It takes a long time to process and a lot of money, so that’s another thing to pray for.
That’s all for now. We want to hear from you so leave a comment or email us. Love, Tamar and Piers
